Structural & Sculptural

“Forbidden” is a seating that explores and practices sculpture and structure. Just like a lot of chairs, it started with thinking to achieve something different yet little. Instead of designing it with strategically plan, the design initiated with the shapes of legs.

Breath of the Shape

To have an organic form to express the stillness of the chair is the core. Like the tweak legs from spiders, although they appear delicate, when combined, they form a strong sense of structure. From the side view, because the negative space the shape left out, it allows your sight and air breath into the structure and form.

Strips on Supercar

The form cannot only be depicted with singular material, but reflect with contrast between colors. The darkness of black walnut and the lightness of maple are the ideal companies to present the form. The strips make it graceful dynamic.

Nooo Nails

There are no nails, which signifies that all connections are made through traditional mortise and tenon joints. Even the backrest and seat use a trapezoidal mortise and tenon structure, giving the chair a lightweight appearance.

Layering to Crafting

From using digital solutions to hand crafted sculpture, they together create harmony between material, structure and aesthetics.
